Most people choose swinging gates. However there are situations where you can only install a sliding gate. If you have landscaping of some sort blocking where swing gates would open up into. That might be some rocks, trees, or other landscaping. If there’s an upward slope going into your driveway. You could still install a swing gate in this case, but it would have to open up toward your car as you enter your driveway if you do which would be inconvenient.
Slide gates can work in this situation. Sliding gates are better than swing gates in very tight situations where swinging isn’t possible especially if you’re afraid your visitors will misjudge the distance your swing gates open and that they might accidentally hit them.
At Door Works, we install operators on any new gate, replace and repair sliding gates. These gates are normally built from ironwork fencing or as a solid piece of fencing that retracts into a slot allowing space to enter the driveway.
Sliding or often called scrolling gates are generally more durable than bi-parting gates due to their simple design.
Automatic sliding gates typically use a single motor that moves the gate along a track to open or close it.
Sliding driveway gates are also usually much less expensive than bi-parting gates and require less regular maintenance. A disadvantage to the side-scrolling design is the need for adequate space on one side of the gate opening for the gate to slide into when opened.
Linear Osco SLD-211
Commercial / residential duty slide gate operator with DC battery backup, available in 1/2 horsepower, 115V supply voltage, 12" per second gate speed. Solar power capable with 24 volt solar panels.
The SLD has four programmable options for gate operation in case of an AC power failure:
With Fail Safe selected, if AC power fails and the backup battery voltage becomes low, the gate will cycle open and remain open until AC power is restored or the battery gets charged by solar panels. Then, the SLD will resume normal operation and auto-close if programmed to do so.
With Fail Secure selected, if AC power fails and the backup battery voltage becomes low, the gate will cycle closed and remain closed until AC power is restored or the battery gets charged by solar panels. Then, the SLD will resume normal operation.
With Open Immediate selected, if AC power fails the operator will cycle open immediately and remain open until AC power is restored. Then, the SLD will resume normal operation and auto-close if programmed to do so.
With Close Immediate selected, if AC power fails the operator will cycle closed immediately and remain closed until AC power is restored. Then, the SLD will resume normal operation.
